Shani DeShield, NP

About

Shani DeShield is a nurse practitioner at UPGUYS, registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, authorized in the Family nurse practitioner category with prescribing authority in both provinces. She has practised as a nurse in Alberta since 2020.

Shani spent two years in telehealth nursing with Alberta Health Services, providing triage by phone to patients across the province, working within physician-developed protocols, and counselling and advocating for patients and their families.

Before that she worked in hospice nursing in Alberta, carrying out history taking and physical assessment, monitoring medication regimens, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary clinical teams. She has since worked in decentralized clinical research, conducting study visits with patients in their own homes under good clinical practice standards, including phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, and clinical monitoring.

She holds a Master of Science in Nursing in the family nurse practitioner stream and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

At UPGUYS, Shani assesses and prescribes for testosterone replacement therapy, erectile dysfunction, and hair loss, and consults with patients by phone and online assessment.
